Anxiety is a completely normal response to stress. Everyone at some point or another has experienced or will experience anxiety in some form. Anxiety attacks are episodes of severe anxiety or panic that cause debilitating effects and affect aspects of one's life in a negative way. People that experience anxiety attacks may have problems at school, work and home. Here are some common anxiety attack symptoms to help you determine if you might be having this problem:
While anxiety attack symptoms only usually last for several minutes, anxiety attacks can re occur throughout each day. Sometimes anxiety attack symptoms are triggered by external events, while other times they happen for no understandable reason. There are different theories as to what causes anxiety attacks. Sometimes, a stressful life event can trigger the problem. Other times, anxiety attacks are caused by a biological factor. An important factor of treating anxiety attacks is understanding what's causing them and how you can treat the cause.
The first step to take if you think you are suffering from anxiety attacks is to see your doctor, psychiatrist or other trusted medical professional. Upon the diagnosis of anxiety disorder, you will be presented with treatment options that can help alleviate the problem. Often behavioral therapy can be a very effective remedy for anxiety attack symptoms. The implementation of relaxation techniques can also help. However, sometimes a doctor may feel that medication is necessary to treat the problem. There are a variety of medications that are commonly prescribed for anxiety disorder and the attacks that accompany it.
Another option is the use of herbal remedies such as teas and supplements that contain ingredients like St. John's Wort, Kava Kava and Valerian. Before considering these types of remedies, consult with your doctor. Herbals can interact with prescription medications, so use extra caution if you're on any sort of medicine. A certified naturopath or holistic practitioner can educate you further on herbal remedies for anxiety.
Joining a support group for people who suffer from anxiety attacks can also help you deal with your disorder. By giving and receiving support in a healthy environment, you can work towards the successful management of your anxiety attack symptoms and the problems caused by these symptoms.
